Famous Machines: Forklifts That Have Appeared On The Big Screen

While you may use your forklifts for heavy-duty lifting, there are some who use forklift hire for other reasons. From the backrooms to the big screen, these machines were born to be stars.

Forklifts are incredibly useful machines and are utilised in warehouses, stores and construction sites all over the world to make the transportation of heavy goods much easier.

While you may use your forklifts for heavy-duty lifting, there are some who use forklift hire for other reasons. From the back rooms to the big screen, these machines were born to be stars.

There are so many different machines which have made appearances in film over the course of history, including the trust forklift. You may think that forklifts aren’t red-carpet-ready but these iconic film appearances show that they most definitely are.

Pixar’s 2008 family favourite film WALL-E follows the story of a little cleaning machine called WALL-E as he helps to clean up the waste-covered earth. He finds friends, finds love and sets off on an adventure to help save mankind.

Among WALL-E's friends is M-O who is a small, forklift-like vehicle that assists WALL-E on his journey. Although tiny, M-O left a mighty impression on us all and this adorable character is a fan favourite of the film.

Pixar has given us other forklift favourites too! Their 2006 film Cars is a popular franchise which focuses mainly on Lightning McQueen, a red racing car, and his friends.

Among the characters is Luigi, a small yellow Fiat 500. His assistant Guido is a light blue forklift. Not only are they colleagues but best friends as well and Guido proves to be a skilled and kind worker.

A fitting representation of the forklifts we all know and love as helpful additions to sites and warehouses, Guido became a fast favourite among fans of the Cars films.

During the first instalment of the Back to the Future trilogy, Marty McFly uses a forklift to help save his friend Doc Brown.

Although not technically a character, the forklift in this film played a vital role as it was used to save Doc from being shot, ensuring the second two films that we all love could go ahead without our beloved crazy scientist being missing from them. That’s definitely worth a mention!

Another iconic appearance of the good old forklift was in the 1998 film Die Hard. This appearance wasn’t as wholesome though as Bruce Willis’s character uses the machine as a makeshift weapon to drop heavy objects onto his enemy.

Not quite the intended use but still effective! Although you should absolutely never use a forklift in this way, health and safety would be extremely unimpressed.

And finally, an honourable mention to the forklift Rocky who makes a fleeting appearance in the first instalment of Toy Story. Rocky is one of the toys who appears in the toy store and comes to life when the humans aren’t around.

I'm sure a lot of us wonder what our forklifts get up to when we aren’t around too! Hopefully nothing too mischievous or we’d have a lot of explaining to do!

So there were just a few of the forklifts we have seen on the big screen and there are many more appearances. You’ll just have to pay close attention to see if you can spot any of our machine friends next time you visit the cinema!
